Stow Manufacturing Company, the Peck, Smith Manufacturing Company, and the Roys & Wilcox Company to create the Peck, Stow, & Wilcox Company in 1870. However, the origin of the Peck, Smith Manufacturing Company dates back to 1797 when Seth Peck began the production of Tinsmiths' Machines to replace hand tools previously used by tinsmiths. After purchasing Peck, Stow and Wilcox in 1970, Roper Whitney now embodies the PEXTO logo along with the brand names Roper Whitney, AutoBrake, and Connecticut.

The Pexto line of industrial machines includes the PX Series mechanical shears and the Pexto Air & Hydraulic Power Shears. Since Roper Whitney takes pride in its rich tradition of quality as well as the longevity of their machines, used Pexto machines continue to maintain the high quality that they were built with.
